Samo Kutin began exploring music and musical instruments in his native Čadrg, where he grew up. His dedication to sound art has led him to personal musical expression and a wide range of collaborations with many Slovenian and international artists, with whom he has worked and performed at home and abroad.
In addition to his involvement in bands and improvisational ensembles, he also devotes himself to solo music making, where he creates organically alive and unique soundscapes with prepared traditional or handmade instruments.
It is this genuine liveliness of his music - a fusion of folk music and minimalistic patterns - that on this album merges with a third element: the living nature itself. The spontaneous dramaturgy of birds, horses, frogs, crickets, a distant train and an approaching storm becomes
the inspiration for improvised melodies and at the same time an equal part of the music itself. The sounds of the strings are interwoven with the sounds of the environment, the nature with the performer.

The recording sessions took place in three locations on the karst edge
and in its hinterland, the Petrinjski Karst.
The first track was recorded in a karst cave. A round figure carved into a stalactite possibly thousands of years ago and the remains of an old clay vessels on the cave floor suggest, that this area was once used as a sanctuary.
Not far from the village of Beka is a clay-lined frogpond that holds rainwater. With the calls of the frogs that live there, the approaching summer storm and the passing trucks for the construction of the second railway track, the second and third tracks have taken shape.
The Petrinjski Karst is a collection of grassy plains and sinkholes - a habitat for a variety of birds and home to horses cared for by Boris and Neja Magdalenc. One of the sinkholes, surrounded by trees and bushes, is where during the night and early morning, the rest of the songs on the album were recorded.

‘Spaces’ are a series of live recordings that strive to capture the synergy between performer and space, following the simple premise of “One performer, one instrument, one space.” They take place mainly in environments that are in one way or another isolated, hidden or forgotten from the outside world, but are much part of it nonetheless.
The recordings are made entirely live, without an audience, within a day or two. We capture the space with a stereo pair of microphones, while the performer is listened to by a few microphones up close. We use field recorders instead of computers, allowing us to record even in more inaccessible and remote locations. Post-production and sound processing are minimal.
